Germany to accept two prisoners from the American base of Guantanamo in Cuba, the German Press Agency broadcasts

The first of the detainees will be received in Rhineland-Palatinate in western Germany and the second in Hamburg in the north of the country, according to the same source.
In June 2009, Berlin had refused to receive two former detainees, reasoning that the information available was insufficient to determine whether or not there is danger in case they will be hosted in Germany. Previously, Germany had also rejected a similar U.S. request concerning Chinese prisoners belonging to the Muslim Uyghur minority.
The U.S. president, Barack Obama has pledged to close the prison at Guantanamo.
